Resistance to Change: Malay Politics in Malaysia

From Reformasi to BA. The reformasi movement has travelled down a long road since it erupted suddenly on the Malaysian political scene. This movement shocked politicians, in both government and opposition, and shook the foundations of Malaysia’s long entrenched authoritarian system. As the crowds gathered and grew, and as unprecedented mass demonstrations persisted in spite of the use of force by the government to  disperse them, even Anwar, the man whose abrupt fall from power precipitated the movement, was probably baffled, if not astonished, at the movement he had started.
