Tomorrow and Sunday, you can register as a voter if you haven’t already. Or prod your children to register if they’re of age.

Go to either Subang Parade, Amcorp Mall or e@Curve (formerly Cineleisure, Kota Damansara), Selangor.

The ‘Voice your Choice’ crews will be manning voter registration booths at these venues from 10am to 10pm this weekend.

‘Voice your Choice’ is a project started by GEL, a team of Growing Emerging Leaders comprised of young adults aged between 18 and 26. This group got together in August 2006 and started their networking to address the needs of youths when they integrate with the workforce.

From their meetings grew EPIC – Extraordinary People Impacting Community. The first epic project was a visit by some 60 volunteers to an Orang Asli village in Kampung Kerling, Kuala Kubu Bharu where the youths painted 10 brick houses and also built the villagers a simple toilet and shower.

EPIC and ‘Voice your Choice’ are bold initiatives by socially conscious young Malaysians who want to give back to society. To find out more and lend your support, click on the ‘Voice your Choice’ logo on the right of this page.

Search for songs

Another youth project Bangkit opened for business yesterday, releasing a 4.5-minute theme song on their blog.

Like ‘Voice your Choice’, Bangkit also seeks to help give Malaysian youths a voice, and impart the belief that their young voices do matter. Only difference is, Bangkit is taking the pop culture approach.

Musical youths (under age 30) have until May 31 to send their songs to Bangkit to be uploaded on its website and for popular voting (of the songs, not general or by-elections).

Bangkit is a Saya Anak Bangsa Malaysia programme led by SABM youth outreach project team coordinator Lai Chee Seng who can be contacted at This email address is being protected from spambots. Both EPIC and Bangkit are using Facebook and Twitter, so if you’re interested, do look them up in cyberspace and start connecting.
